Writing Magic
When I bring it to class with me,
I instantly become a rock star.
It inspires "oohs" and "ahhhs"
With each page I turn.
I collect words in it.
I scribble snippets of
Dialogue overheard in my travels;
Funny things, poignant things,
Sad things.
I tuck ticket stubs and photos in it,
Love notes and sticky notes.
Keeping it is my way of attempting
to live a more "writerly life."
An effort to show kids that their
Thoughts and dreams are worth collecting.
Do you write for your students? Do you keep a writing notebook? I pinky-promise you that it will change the way you teach writing. It will change the way you percieve yourself as well as the way your students perceive you. It's magic.
