It's that time of year. We are all trying to look at data and see what we need to reteach and review before the CRCT.... If you are looking for a novel way to review grammar and conventions, think about using song lyrics. Anything you teach about parts of speech, sentence structure, or figurative language can be found in songs. Main idea and details can also be found in song. It is sometimes difficult to find songs that engage the kids and are also appropriate for school, but it can be done.
Flocabulary is an excellent place to start to find hip-hop music to use in the ELA classroom. I am using this song to review parts of speech today. It is has a great beat! What songs can you use to engage your students and to review at the same time?
