It's Not Too Late!

We are all dreaming of warmer days, bare toes, and rest for our weary bones right about now... Spring Break will be here before we know it, followed by SUMMER! (Cue the Jimmy Buffett music here.)

It is not too early to begin thinking about motivating our kids to read during the summer. According to Scholastic's research, students who read four or more books during the summer avoid the "Summer Slide". Scholastic is doing its part by sponsoring its annual summer reading challenge, in which students log minutes to compete for a spot in the 2011 Guiness Book of World Records!

They have made it very simple. The only thing we have to do is sign our students up here. Beginning May 1, students log minutes. Scholastic will tally up the minutes per school and announce the winning school at the end of the summer.

To kick off the contest, Scholastic will host the Ultimate Author Showdown, a LIVE book-trivia game show webcast where students ask the questions. Can your students stump the authors? Click here for details!
